How to Read Better (Article 9)

If you want to read better in English, there are six basic steps you can follow. This post will show you how to read better in English, and it will also help you improve your own English reading skills. I’m not a native English speaker, and I can only speak from experience. You’ll probably need to do a bit of trial and error until you find something that works for you. But this post should give you a solid starting point.

1: Learn to Read Like a Native Speaker

The first step is simple – learn to read like a native speaker. This means taking an active interest in the text, and practicing reading at least one book a week.

Reading is an active process, and if you aren’t doing it regularly, it’s going to be difficult to get better.

I read at least one book a week and sometimes more. If I don’t have enough time, I just pick up a book on a particular topic that interests me.

If you’re just starting out, it may take a few weeks or even months for you to develop good reading skills. That’s okay. Just keep at it.

If you’re struggling, you can always ask for help. There are plenty of people out there who are willing to help. Just start a conversation with them. They may offer some advice or help you improve your skills.

2: Start Reading Fiction

Fiction is the best way to practice reading. It forces you to concentrate and focus on the text, and it also gives you a chance to interact with the characters.

You’ll get better faster when you read fiction because you can learn about grammar and vocabulary through context. You’ll also pick up on how to structure sentences, and you’ll learn about literary devices such as foreshadowing and symbolism.

Some great fiction books include:

The Lord of the Rings – Tolkien

Harry Potter – Rowling

The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho

A Wrinkle in Time – Madeline L’Engle

A Game of Thrones – George R.R. Martin

3: Practice Reading Newspapers and Magazines

Reading newspapers and magazines is one of the most efficient ways to develop your reading skills. It’s also one of the easiest. All you have to do is sit down and read.

Read for at least 5 minutes a day and make sure you’re reading in a quiet room.

If you want to practice with the newspaper, you can subscribe to an online subscription service like Google News or Flipboard. If you want to practice with magazines, you can just pick up a magazine that interests you.

You can also find plenty of free magazines on the web. There are lots of sites that give away free magazines for downloading.

4: Learn How to Use Grammarly

Grammarly is a great tool to help you improve your English. It will point out any mistakes you make while you type, and it will even suggest the right words to use.

You can set it up so that it automatically checks your writing as you type, or you can manually check your content. Either way, it’s going to save you a lot of time.

I use Grammarly to check my emails and posts on social media. I just hit “send” and let it do the rest.

There are lots of other apps that can help you improve your English skills. Just search for “grammar app” or “English editing app” online.

5: Learn to Recognize and Fix Common Writing Mistakes

There are plenty of writing mistakes you can make. Here are a few of the most common ones:

– Overusing prepositions – you should only use prepositions when they’re absolutely necessary

– Misusing commas – you should use commas in all of these situations

– Using passive voice – you should only use passive voice when you want to emphasize a negative concept

– Not using transition words – when you start a sentence with a conjunction, you should also end it with one

– Not using punctuation – if you’re not sure about a word, you should always use punctuation. Don’t leave any words unquoted.

6: Learn How to Read and Understand Stories

The last step is learning how to read and understand stories. It’s important to learn how to do this because it will give you an advantage when it comes to reading fiction.

You’ll learn how to follow a story and keep track of the characters. You’ll learn how to figure out what’s going on in a story without having to read every single detail.

You’ll also learn to analyze the language used in a story. The way a writer uses words can tell you a lot about them. If you know how to read stories, you can see all sorts of things in books.

Thanks for reading!
