How to Read Better (Article 7)

I’ve had a lot of requests from fellow writers for tips on how to read English better, and I thought I’d share what I’ve learned. It’s not rocket science, but I’m sure many of you can use it as well.

STEP 1: Read More Than You Write

The first step is to get into the habit of reading more than you write. This means spending more time reading the news, articles, blogs, books, and anything else written by other people. This is especially important for non-native English speakers because they have to work harder to learn how to understand written English.

STEP 2: Read Articles Written In The Language You Are Studying

The next step is to focus on reading articles written in the language you are studying. For example, if you’re studying Spanish, you should be reading articles written in Spanish. This will help you learn vocabulary and grammar concepts.

STEP 3: Find A Teacher or Tutor

The next step is to find a teacher or tutor. There are many great resources out there to learn English, but many of them offer a one-on-one approach. With a teacher or tutor, you can learn a lot more in less time.

STEP 4: Study The Grammar You Didn’t Know You Needed

If you’ve ever tried learning a foreign language on your own, you know how difficult it can be to memorize grammar. It’s especially hard for people who aren’t native speakers of that language. The next step is to find grammar resources that cover the grammar you didn’t know you needed.

STEP 5: Find Other Students And Join Online Communities

The next step is to find other students and join online communities. These sites are full of resources that will help you improve your language skills. You’ll also get to practice speaking with other students in your target language.

STEP 6: Use Technology To Your Advantage

The last step is to use technology to your advantage. For example, you can take advantage of audio books. They’re a great way to read while you exercise, work out, or commute. If you have an iPhone, you can even download podcasts and audiobooks.

STEP 7: Don’t Be Afraid To Ask Questions

Finally, don’t be afraid to ask questions. There are many other people out there who have already gone through the same process as you, so they can help you along the way.
