O. Henry is the pseudonym of the aforementioned writer’s real name William Sydney Porter who was an American short story writer and journalist. He is best known for his whimsical, clever, and often ironic twist endings to his tales. Porter was born in North Carolina on September 11, 1862, to parents who were shopkeepers. He had two sisters and one brother. After his father died when he was 10 years old, his mother moved her family back to her hometown of Greensboro.
